Out of 52 weekends that the Sunday Times Travel magazine recommends for 2011, Arblaster & Clarke Wine Tours featured in two entries! The Sunday Times fantastic mini adventures for a very happy new year included a weekend in Champagne and an Opera & Wine Tour of Tuscany
14. Spring Champagne Weekend (March)
One of the manifold delights of the Champagne region is that, being the closest of France’s vineyards, it makes a perfect weekender. Arblaster & Clarke has a Champagne weekend (March 26 – 28) that promises at least 20 champagnes to sample during your two days in Rheims. You’ll start with a glass over breakfast, naturally, and continue at a variety of houses, some global (Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger), others tiny, but still producing some exceptional bubbles (for little more than a tenner). You’ll come back refreshed, knowledgeable and almost certainly struggling under the weight of a few souvenirs.
43. Opera Torre del Lago (July/August)
Hankies at the ready: the world’s only Opera festival devoted entirely to Puccini takes place on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli, in Tuscany, from July 22 to August 27. You can pick a weekend featuring one or more of La Boheme, Turandot and Madam Butterfly.
