I’ve been in Georgia for 5 days now looking at the wines and the wine tourism potential as part of a project for Georgia’s ‘Economic Prosperity Initiative’. I couldn’t resist the opportunity and challenge to explore and help the world’s oldest continuous Wine Culture.

Where to start with the country where wine started?

Being at the far end of the Black sea, in the Caucasus beyond Turkey, you might expect Georgia to be pretty Middle-Eastern. Strangely, it isn’t and the people look more Italian than anything else. It is officially in Europe geographically and it has to be said, it is culturally too. It would not be surprising if this hospitable little Orthodox country was next to Greece or Bulgaria, rather than being just over the mountains from Dagestan and Azerbaijan.
