Careers

Although at Arblaster & Clarke Wine Tours we are a small team, vacancies do come available from time to time...

Freelance Wine Guides

We have many of the UK's greatest Wine Experts on our books as Wine Guides. - However we always need more!

We are looking for younger members of the wine trade / wine journalists who are lively, original and enthusiastic. They will enjoy travelling, being with people and have a reasonable command of one Foreign Language. The ability to communicate about wine being at least as important as specialist knowledge or tasting ability. Initially this would be for our For our shorter, introduction level tours.

We are looking for the right American wine expert.

We may also be looking for Wine Guides who will also have the skills of the Freelance Tour Managers as outlined below. We could also be looking for Walk Guides who need all of this, plus the ability to read a map and they must enjoy walking!

Freelance Tour Managers

Our Tour Managers need to have extremely good language skills in both English and the relevant Foreign languages. They should know the foreign country well, they may well have lived there, though they need not have any prior experience in the travel industry.

They need to combine a vibrant warm personality with tact, and be very organised. They need to be able to work well in a team with an expert guide and sometimes other Tour Managers, both giving and taking instructions.

Our Freelance Tour Managers need not be Wine Experts, but a love of travel, food and wine are prerequisites for this job.

Programme Administrators

Our Programme Administrators need all the skills of the Tour Managers, because they take tours and travel the wine world too.

On top of this, they need to be able to work in a modern office environment. They will need some computer skills, to be very organised and capable of working at speed and at times under pressure.

They will have good written foreign languages, and, (as well as a deep love of travel, food and wine,) they will need a thorough understanding too.

Computer skills an advantage: especially Excel & Word. (We also use Outlook, Filemaker Pro, NT, Acrobat, Appleworks, Photoshop, Adobe GoLive and Quark Xpress).

Student/Work Experience placements

When we were students we were never offered the chance to work in wine tours. Waitressing and making army boot soles at the local rubber factory were the best jobs on offer!

Each year we employ a student who is on a year placement from University, and this has proved to be a great success.

We look for a well educated young person who is literate, sparky and willing to learn. He or she will probably come from a wine, food and travel loving family and might have 'A level' standard French, Italian or Spanish. Tasks will include: helping run the website, assisting with the brochures, PR, research, database cleaning and other marketing jobs. They may sometimes helping the Programme Administrators set up and prepare for tours and do a bit of travelling too.

Computer skills an advantage although training is given: Excel & Word. (We also use Outlook, Filemaker Pro, NT, Acrobat, Appleworks, Photoshop, Quark Xpress, web apps and iMovie).
