Autumn Champagne
25 - 27 October 2008
The first champagne visit on this tour is to the beautiful cellars of Taittinger in Reims, which is a good start with a clear explanation and fine, classic champagne to taste.
The visit at Hatté’s small and rustic cellar is a complete contrast. We’ll see wines stored in wooden barrels, in metal cuves and in under floor tanks. (Also in the cellar are Madame Hatté’s jars of pickles). What follows is a very jolly tasting!
On Monday morning we are very happy to visit Philipponnat. Whilst they are most famous for their single vineyard special cuvee ‘Clos des Goisses’, the whole range here is to our mind, very impressive.
We then continue down the valley of the Marne to visit Champagne J. Charpentier a delightful family run Champagne house and taste the Champagnes over lunch in the 'cave'.
