Stars of the Right Bank

17 - 21 November 2008

This exclusive wine tour is a new version of our ‘Guests at Château Franc Mayne’ following in the footsteps of our ‘Private Guests at great chateaux’ series that has stayed at Pichon-Baron, Lascombes and Suduiraut. Tasting and wine visits include the best of Bordeaux and more specifically the Rght Bank and St.Emilion.

Our luxury wine tour centred on the ‘right bank’ vineyards of St Emilion and Pomerol, looks at the famous right bank wines in depth, as well as taking in the fascinating rising stars in communes including Fronsac, Côtes de Bourg and the St Emilion and Pomerol satellites. Our home for the tour is a leading St Emilion chateau, Franc-Mayne, where as is customary on these tours, you will be welcomed as house guests by special invitation. This is a private château and the accommodation is a good 4* standard.

Our Wine Guide, James Lawther MW, is Bordeaux resident and is an acclaimed wine writer.

Our wine visits and tastings in St Emilion itself are magnificent. We call in on some of the finest châteaux, such as Château Figeac, Château Canon La Gaffelière, and enjoy dinner at a château that evening. We also enjoy a tasting of all the St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé B’s. This fantastic once in a lifetime experience is usually only possible for Wine Trade professionals and this is the last time we will be able to include it on one of our tours. Tutored by James, the tasting will allow you to compare and contrast the styles and terroirs within the appellation tasting wines from Cheval Blanc, Angelus and Ausone amongst others.

We take a close look at the so called ‘satellite appellations’, in particular Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac, where we have a round up wine tasting. We visit Château de Carles et Haut-Carles, and stay for lunch. In the afternoon we visit Château St George in St Georges-St Emilion, another magnificent property.
In the neighbouring micro-appellation of Pomerol we have several visits including Le Bon Pasteur and Petit Village where we will enjoy lunch.

On our last morning we visit Château Faugères which is under new ownership has been producing cutting-edge, new-world style wines.

This is a truly superb tour that visits many of the Right Bank’s most important properties and discovers some of the region’s stars of tomorrow. You can fly to Bordeaux, take the TGV or drive down to join us making this part of a longer holiday.
