Lyons: A Gourmet Weekend for Food & Wine Lovers
Our base for this special reward trip is the beautiful city of Lyons. Lyons is so often by-passed by those rushing south to the sun on the “autoroutes de soleil” that it is not as well known as it should be, so it is likely that your guests will not have had the pleasure of visiting before and wine tasting there.
We’ll accommodate you at a wonderful newly renovated 4* hotel, within walking distance of the medieval quarter (the largest in Europe) and the numerous “bouchons” (wine-bar/brasseries) for which Lyons is famed.
To our mind Lyons is one of the most underrated cities in France with its attractive setting on two river fronts, its magnificent Roman museum set high up on Fourviere Hill and its fascinating medieval quarter. It also has the highest concentration of Michelin starred restaurants in France, after Paris.
We spend a day wine touring to the north of the city, to the fun, unspoilt villages of the Beaujolais Cru and have lunch at a beautiful wine chateau. This will be a day discovering the very best of Beaujolais and is a far cry from the fruity “banana” flavoured “nouveau” which has sadly done much to damage the image of these delightful wines.
You can choose to fly to Lyons airport or for a better opportunity to chat to your clients why not take the TGV – we can arrange either option for you.
As we are fully financially bonded with the Civil Aviation Authority with CAA Licene 2543, we can of course not only book your flights for you but you will benefit from the financial protection that this affords. (anyone that does not have a CAA Licence has not been financially vetted for this part of their business).
Outline Itinerary
Day One
Your clients will be met at the airport or train station in Lyons by our experience local tour manager and luxury coach for the short transfer to your central luxury 4* hotel.
Dinner tonight will be at one of the world’s most famous restaurants – the Triple Rosette Paul Bocuse. This was where nouvelle cuisine was invented – though of course the style of menu has moved on significantly since then and you will certainly not leave feeling hungry!
(if you are on a smaller budget this trip can be based in a 3* hotel and this meal can instead be at one of the fun wine bars in the city centre)
Day Two
Your local guide will meet the party and take them for a very enjoyable day out in the vineyards of the Beaujolais for a tasting at the most famous of all Beaujolais producers, Georges du Boeuf at his acclaimed “Hammeu du Vin”
You will continue afterwards for a lunch at a 4* winery–restaurant-hotel.
Return to Lyons late afternoon.
We can include another meal this evening to match your budget requirements – just let us know what you would like to spend and we will match a venue to this. A boat trip with dinner might appeal, a traditional bistro, or another of the top gourmet restaurants.
Day Three
After breakfast you will be met this morning for a guided walking tour around the medieval quarter, or just enjoy free time for shopping.
A final lunch at a favourite bistro, before being whisked back to the UK by TGV or by plane.
