Laithwaites Anniversary Festival

5 - 7 June 2009

Tony Laithwaite invites you to join him in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of his company, back in the place where it all began - Bordeaux. This wine festival continues the tradition of the Laithwaites Wine Festivals from the wonderful Spanish experience in Rioja, in Champagne, the fabulous Fête des Vins of 2007 in the Rhône - but for the 40th, we had to head back to Tony's roots.

We start the wine festival in style at the lovely Château Talbot to enjoy their elegant wines over dinner at the Château.

On the Saturday it's Party day - including a wine tasting visit to Tony's own estate at Domaine La Clariere Laithwaite - and an exiting festival atmosphere where we are joined by lots of Laithwaites wine producing friends from the region, to showcase their wines before lunch on the banks of the River Dordogne at Tony's new property, Le Chai au Quai in Castillon-la-Bataille.

This beautiful old quayside building dates from the golden age of the great Bordeaux merchants. It is now the HQ for the Laithwaites special ‘Le Grand Chai’ releases as well as ‘mission control’ for tiny productions projects, often available exclusively to Laithwaites Private Cellars’ customers. It’s got a Laithwaites history too – Tony hand-bottled wine here over 40 years ago before Bordeaux Direct even existed.

The celebrations culminate on Sunday, you can simply choose to wind down and relax before your return journey or participate in an optional river cruise from Bordeaux. We will be joined by one or two Laithwaites producers with some select bottles of course!

With time to explore the newly revitalised city of Bordeaux with its many boutiques and endless cafes in which to relax - this promises to be a memorable way to celebrate this 40th anniversary - we do hope you can join Tony in June.
